Continue to support next generation

Will we have football games this year or not? I don’t think that is the right question to ask. While I realize how integral football is to our community, I think if we questioned our reasoning it would be (or should be) much deeper.

This spring, I saw people becoming extremely creative in showing support for the youngsters of our community. Sympathy for students who were missing out on several memories many of us have taken for granted, stirred support in an amazing way.

I realize we are all tired of the “unprecedented” aspects of this year. I’m also probably the last person to speak on football, which I admit to knowing nothing about (no hooves involved). Yet, as a mother of many, I see the needs of children around me. They need support and encouragement. Whether they get to play one game, march one routine with the band, cheer one chant or attend one full day of live, in-person classroom instruction, they need to know their community cares.

While we all become apathetic to the events of the day, let us not become indifferent to the needs of those around us. Be supportive. Be creative. Embrace that Northwest Oklahoma pioneer spirit and have faith that through all this hubbub, everything is going to work out.
