Oklahoma Donor Depot Coordinator Brynn Johnston with Lactation Consultant Sierra Elsey and Donor Heather Donley, RN with the freezer purchased by Oklahoma Milk Bank, which is over two-thirds full of donated breast milk and ready for pick-up. Area donors have collected over 10 gallons of breast milk, with Donley having donated several thousand ounces herself. Most of the milk goes to babies in Neonatal Intensive Care Units (NICU) throughout the state. According to Elsey, there is now enough supply to also sell to families in need of supplementation as an alternative to formula. Elsey is excited about the ability of AllianceHealth Woodward to store pasteurized breast milk for their own patients as well. According to Johnston, three-ounces of breast milk can typically feed 10 of the smallest NICU infants for one day. (Photo by Dawnita Fogleman)
